SB: I have three
kids, Christopher is 16, Phillip is 13 and Morgan is 10, and my
husband is Marcus.
AG: When did
you meet your husband and when did you go into the ministry?
SB: Well we met
at Texas Bible College in the fall of 1988 and we
married the next year. And before we married we eventually
knew that we were going to France. It just took a matter
of waiting on God.
AG: And how did
you know that you wanted to go to France, was it something that
God placed on your and your husband's heart individually?
SB: Well, he
was raised in France. He's dad is French and he was raised there
and he knew eventually he wanted to go back. I was
raised in church all my life and missionaries were my heroes.
And I always thought that was something I wanted to do.
And God just happened to bring me together with someone that
wanted to be a missionary.
AG: Awww...that's
cool! Ok, so now you've only been in France once..
SB: ...for 10
days...
AG:...And that
was for?
SB: We went to
meet his family and se the headquarters' church and tour the
country.
AG: How long
has it taken just to go over as missionaries?
SB: We applied
in 2002 and we met the missions board in 2004 and we receive our
appointment then and we didn't get to start traveling on our
deputation until July 2006 so we waited for two years to travel
and now we have until September 2008 before we're finished.
AG: So right
now your just getting sponsors and the funds needed?
SB: Right, we
are currently getting partners, which will be what supports us
while were on the field. We're raising the Project funds, we
have different projects that have to be funded. And the next part is
where we reach the people by relating to their culture, we're
learning the language.
AG: So before
you can actually be a missionary, there's a lot of work!
SB: It's a lot
of work, and it's kind of discouraging at times
because you're ready to go right now, but it's like everything in
life you've got to wait on God's perfect timing.
AG: Aside from
what you have to do now, what are some things you have to do
when you get there?
SB: Well first
we have to do it find a home, a place to live. It's more
expensive over there. We want to get a familiar surrounding to
work out of, and then we will continue to go to language school.
We will also be working in the Bible School.
AG: After
that will you begin to start your own church?
SB: Yes, but
we're still not quite sure where. Probably were we're need the
most.
AG: So what
would you say to the girls that want to be used but find it hard
to be patient and wait on God?
SB: First, you
should set goals, and know what your wanting. There's a lot of
steps in your life, like step one may take a week but step two
may take four years, but you've got to keep that distant goal in
your mind. You have to find what you're intended to do, you
can't teach Sunday School for 2 Sundays and after one
discouraging lesson decide never to teach again! You have to give it time, and you need to always give
it your best. Even if it's something you don't feel like
doing at the moment, do your best because God can take that and turn
it around to what he eventually has planned for your life.
There's times when I wished I was already there, but then I
think of the experiences I've had, and if I was already there I
would have missed out on them and they wouldn't have made
me become who God wants me to be.
Just remember
that the little things will effect you in the long run, what you
are doing now is important for your future. You may think you
don't have to be faithful now because your young, but being
faithful now will build a habit of faithfulness, and make you a
person God will want to use. |
