Dear Andrea,
I'm in a rough patch
at the moment. I literally feel alone. I've always been the good
girl-never doing anything that would be considered inappropriate.
Sometimes though, it feels like no one cares and that I am abandoned
by the cool kids living on the edge. Sometimes I wonder if there are
any other kids that are actually doing what is right. Am I really
one of a few that are in hiding?
Lonely
Dear Lonely,
No, you are not alone. Yes there are still some true-blue Apostolic
Girls and Guys out there who love the Lord and desire to serve Him
more than anything. There are also a lot of humans who are bound to
make mistakes. I agree with you that there are a lot of youth who
live as close as they can to the edge. I'm not sure why this is but
I do know that when you are young there is a great deal of pressure
to fit in. All young people are trying to "find their place."
Sometimes this causes them to do very silly things. But if they
have a heart for God, He will deal with them. Live for and love
God not because you "have to" but because it has become your desire
to. If you are serving Him with all your heart then I ask that you
please pray for and don't judge those who are struggling. Be proud
of yourself for standing strong but don't be proud. You will be a
light that unsaved young people will remember as being steadfast and
unmovable. This kind of high compliment is earned. If you are the
only one in your class or in your high school, then be that one and
do it with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Dear Andrea,
This question may
strike you as strange, but our youth pastor's wife had a sleepover
for the young ladies in our church. She wanted to address a few
issues that she considered a possible threat to the girls in our
group. The one issue she addressed was wearing certain types of
undergarments made of certain materials and such! She insisted
wearing these pieces would bring about a bad spirit! This struck me
as unusual and I was wanting your thoughts on this.
Curious
Dear Curious,
I understand your confusion as this is something that is not
ordinarily spoken. You are ultimately responsible for how you live
your life when no one is watching. What you wear that no one sees
or is supposed to see is going to be your decision. However, if
your Youth Pastor's wife has made a point to bring out that these
types of undergarments can lead to other things then she may have
dealt with it in the past or is just taking extra precaution to keep
her young ladies safe. I do not believe there is black and white to
say that these types of materials are wrong. My personal
opinion coincides with that of your Youth Pastor's wife.
