After God delivered the children of Israel from the hand of Pharaoh, they ventured into the wilderness with Moses. We're all aware of Moses' long journey into Mt. Sinai to talk with God while the people waited for him at the bottom. While Moses was up there however, the people began to worry and believe he had died! Moses was their only connection to God at that time, and in panic they decided to take things into their own hands. They did as they'd seen the Egyptians do, and created a golden calf to worship and symbolize God.

The very calf they created, was made out of the earrings that the women and children wore. It was melted down and molded. The earrings back in the Bible days, represented slavery and meant that they were owned by a master. They obviously hadn't taken them out, from the time they were in Egypt.

The point is simple. A lot of times God will deliver us from certain addictions, worries, or situations, but we're still wearing the earrings of slavery! God may have delivered us from depression, but we still have the old music that plays dark and morbid lyrics and leaves us feeling dirty and low. God may have delivered us from fear, yet we still watch horror movies and go to bed every night in terror.

If God has loosed you and set you free, get rid of the things that would try to drag you down again and cause you to fall! Remove those symbols of your past addictions and slavery! Otherwise, they could become a god to you, and the end result will be the opposite of what God wants for you...a life of joy, peace, and contentment!
